Jenny Vargas Photography

Jenny Vargas taught herself photography after her son was born. She wanted to be home for every milestone, so she photographed him constantly until she had the camera, the editing and the island light worked out. She grew up in California, came to Maui with her husband, and now works with two associates, Lexi and Meigan. The look is classic, light and airy, with a fine-art finish, and having been a bride herself, she takes time to get to know couples before the day. For a proposal, ask her about Haleakalā. At one proposal up there she stood in the crowd like any other visitor, and it was a quarter of an hour before the proposer's girlfriend noticed he had gone quiet and turned round to find him on one knee. The couple had gone up in short sleeves. She wore layers, which is the right call at 10,023 feet, where it drops below freezing.
