Most of what you see on Gaylin Howbert's website was shot on film, and the rainbow shots are 35mm, not a Photoshop trick. She shoots digital alongside it and keeps sessions relaxed, watching for the quiet in-between moments. She has never liked being in front of a camera herself, so she knows how awkward it can feel, and there are dad jokes to help. Photography was her father's passion and she grew up around it, but she majored in marine biology and came to it later. A spontaneous trip to Maui in 2017 turned into a move. Her proposal advice is the practical kind. There are no private beaches in Hawaii, so go in the morning, when most people on the beach are out exercising and don't stay long, and you still have the rest of the day to celebrate.
