Proposal Planner

Before San Diego Picnics, Miriam Morales had been photographing couples and proposals since around 2013. In 2020, with events cancelled everywhere, Miriam wanted a smaller way to keep celebrating couples and started the picnics. Its TikTok videos went viral, and it is now a team that runs several picnics a day.

A proposal picnic is set up before you arrive and cleared away after you leave, with a table, rug and pillows, candles, fresh flowers and a standing chalkboard. Picnics begin about an hour before sunset and can run until 15 minutes past it. Alcohol isn't allowed on the beaches, so the drinks are sparkling lemonade or water. If the weather turns, they call ahead and move the date.

For a cliff-top proposal the Flower Romance package makes more sense than the full picnic. It puts flower arrangements on the ground at Sunset Cliffs, or a fuller half circle of them, and it doesn't need a permit. The other option worth knowing about is your own backyard, which their FAQ calls the best way to get real privacy, since no park or beach can be guaranteed empty. They don't set up in Coronado, Del Mar or North County.
