The Opera House and the Harbour Bridge are two of the most recognizable structures on Earth, and they happen to sit within walking distance of each other on the same stretch of water. From a dinner cruise, or from the viewpoints on the north shore, you see both at once.
That's the Sydney proposal in a sentence. The harbour delivers the occasion. A dinner cruise gives you the view and the evening together. Balmoral Beach is a shorter trip that still faces the water, and the north shore has lookout points that are worth the ferry ride across.

Sydney Proposal Ideas
Sydney is known for its beautiful harbor area with its iconic Opera House and stunning bridge. It’s no surprise that most of the best locations to propose in Sydney are around this area or have beautiful views towards it. Here are some of the best spots in Sydney to propose.
Proposing in Sydney Harbor

You could choose to sail in a historic timber tall ship, or take a more luxurious dinner cruise. Most cruise companies will be able to arrange for you to sit in a particularly romantic or secluded spot on the boat if you let them know in advance that you intend to propose. Or you could charter a small boat just for the two of you.
If you’d rather stay on dry land, you could consider proposing inside the Sydney Opera House. There are a variety of tours of the Opera House that you can take and nothing could be more significant than popping the question inside those well known sails with a beautiful view of the harbor. Celebrate in the Opera Bar afterwards.
For the more adventurous couple, the summit of Sydney Harbor Bridge is a stunning place to propose. You can book a bridge climb with professional guides who will help you on your ascent to the top. They can even provide a special engagement ring safety device for you to use to make sure your sparkling diamond doesn't end up at the bottom of the harbor. Alternatively, you could just climb the historic Pylon Lookout, which has 200 steps but is still much less strenuous than a bridge climb.
Proposing With Views of Sydney

The north beaches are a favorite choice, but you can also go west towards Balmain or east towards Vaucluse.
Cremorne Point is easily accessible by ferry from central Sydney and is a beautiful place to take a walk with your girlfriend and enjoy the views across the harbor. Robertsons Point Lookout in Cremorne Reserve, with its lovely lighthouse, has perhaps the best views.
Watsons Bay is located on the southern head at the entrance to the harbor, with the Tasman Sea on one side and views towards Sydney on the other. You can walk to Macquarie Lighthouse, Australia’s oldest lighthouse for a dramatic proposal, and celebrate at the first Doyles Restaurant afterwards. Nielsen Park is also a beautiful spot.
For one of the best views of Sydney, consider proposing at Mrs Macquarie’s Chair, a seat carved out of the rock for Governor Macquarie’s wife over 150 years ago so she could enjoy panoramic views over the harbor. It is located on the eastern edge of the Botanical Gardens so you could enjoy a romantic stroll there first.
Another fabulous view of the bay is from Balls Head, a beautiful bush reserve on the Waverton Peninsula, north of the harbor. It offers stunning views of Harbor Bridge, Darling Harbor, Balmain and of course the city skyline. It is usually fairly quiet and secluded for an uninterrupted proposal.
Picnic Proposals in Sydney

Balmoral Beach is a beautifully serene beach with clear waters and sweeping views out over the heads, as well as good restaurants nearby where you can celebrate after she’s said yes.
Another lovely beach for a proposal picnic is Milk Beach, located at the base of Hermit Bay in Vaucluse. With its white sand, picturesque location, views of the bridge, and historic houses, Milk Beach is an ideal spot for a romantic picnic for two.
For something truly unique why not book a seaplane picnic tour? You can fly along the north beaches and your pilot will drop you off at a secluded beach that is only accessible by plane or boat, and leave you for a couple of hours with a delicious picnic, before returning to pick you up for a return flight around Sydney Harbor.
If you’d like a location away from the harbor, you could consider Centennial Park, a grand park south of Sydney’s central business district, with European style formal gardens, ponds, grand avenues, and historic buildings and statues. The Rose Garden or Column Garden are perfect places to propose. An alternative park would be Queen’s Park, set in a natural amphitheater at the base of sandstone cliffs, with a lovely view of the Sydney skyline.
