Prague is a true fairy tale city, steeped in culture, history, and the atmospheric setting makes it the perfect place to ask that all important question. There are plenty of iconic landmarks to choose for a memorable proposal in the Old Town and the very romantic Lesser Town, or if you’d like to get away from the crowds and find a little privacy there are many beautiful parks and vineyards.
Iconic Places to Propose in Prague
If you’re looking for a romantic proposal location that sums up Prague, the Charles Bridge (Karluv Most) is the place for you. An incredible fourteenth century stone bridge that spans the river, forming a pedestrian walkway connecting the Old Town with the Lesser Town and Prague castle, this beautiful structure offers stunning views of Prague and plenty of entertainment in the form of live music and street performances. The bridge can get busy during the day so if it’s a romantic mood you’re after you should plan your proposal for early morning or evening.
Another location that is synonymous with the city of Prague is Prague Castle, a UNESCO heritage site that is said to be the largest coherent castle complex in the world. It features a fascinating range of architecture including gothic and Roman style buildings. Again the castle is at its most magical in the evening and during the summer it is open until midnight for a romantic proposal. There are also a number of beautiful gardens surrounding the walls of the castle which can offer more privacy and wonderful views of the river and city.
Jindrisska Tower, a bell tower that connects Wenceslas Square, Charles Square, and Senovazne Square, is another iconic location for a proposal if you don’t mind heights. The bells ring at 9am, 12 noon, 3pm and 6pm, and the panoramic view from the tower is well worth the climb. Alternatively you could consider the Powder Tower, which was originally one of the entrances to the city and which got its name when it was used to store gunpowder. The viewing platform offers a superb view of the old town.
A final iconic location for a proposal in Prague is the Krizik Singing Fountain. Beautifully choreographed water ballets with colored lights are accompanied by well known music that creates a very romantic atmosphere every evening. You do need to buy tickets for the performances which last around half an hour, but there’s no need to book in advance.
Garden Proposals in Prague
There are plenty of green spaces in and around Prague for a truly romantic proposal, and one of the most popular is Petrin Hill, a hill in the centre of Prague that is home to a number of parks and recreational areas. You can take the funicular railway up the hill which is a romantic activity in itself and stop at one of the many observation points. The Vrtbovske Garden, a fine example of a terraced baroque garden with waterfalls and floral displays, is a wonderful choice. There is also an observation tower on top of Petrin Hill which is a small version of the Parisian Eiffel Tower.
Some of the best garden locations to propose in Prague are actually vineyards, which provide welcome peace and tranquility even when they are located close to the city. An excellent choice is the Vinicni Altan winery, tucked away in the Havlickovy Sady Park. The gorgeously trellised wine bar is surrounded by vineyards that date back to the fourteenth century and it has fantastic views of the city. You can celebrate your engagement with some superb local wine and delicious sundaes or cheese plates to complement it. Other historic vineyards with lovely views are the St. Wenceslas vineyard at Prague Castle, and another located at the romantic chateau of Troja, nestled in a bend of the Vltava River.
